20+ stars moving smoothly in all directions around the sky. No distinct pattern. Some in formations.
It was approximately 6:00 PM (give or take 5 minutes). The whole thing lasted no more than 5 minutes.
My wife and I were looking at the sky around 6 PM, when she remarked on how dark the sky seemed. I noticed the stars were clearly visible, and Cassiopeia was centered in our view of the sky.
At first, I thought I saw one of the stars in Cassiopeia move, and then my wife noticed several other "stars" also shifting in the sky. We quickly turned off all nearby lights to observe better.
We saw at least 5 "stars" moving around, possibly more. Initially, I noticed 4 of them in a closing diamond formation that seemed to move downward toward the horizon.
It was then that these stars started showing up all over. There was maybe around 2 dozen, possibly more throughout the whole 5 minutes. There were so many we lost count. Most seemed to move in the direction I would say was north northeast. Tracking them from the top of Cassiopeia to the bottom. But I'm not positive on that direction. As they got close to the horizon you just couldn't see them anymore. I wouldn't say they disappeared. They just faded into the horizon light. They were in no way limited to this direction. Some moved up Cassiopeia while others across. Some came in from out of our view. While others were just suddenly there. (Probably because we just noticed them show up)
They all moved at a noticably steady speed, and direction. Altering slightly, if at all. There was never any quick sudden direction changes. Some of the objects moved in straight lines, while others took long, gradual curves. At one point, we could see two faded stars very close together with two brighter ones following them. Close to the end, we noticed the brightest of all the moving stars. It almost looked like a plane with no blinking lights moving toward us. It had a very dim star following it, and as this star passed the whole event seemed to end all at once. No new stars came in. Once the ones that were there left, it was done.
I don't know if this is noteworthy, but in the middle of all of this we saw what was definitely a plane with flashing red lights heading towards these stars. It seemed like it changed direction away from the stars. If I had to guess I would say a south to north heading and it turned west. Just a guess
This was the strangest thing I have ever seen in the sky. Possibly ever. I checked the find starlink app and it looks like starlink was possibly in the area at the time. I'm not exactly sure. But I can't say enough that these stars moved in very random directions throughout the sky. At first I thought it might be starlink. I thought for sure the first star I saw was a satellite. Just oddly bright. But the formations and their consistent movement patterns were just so unusual, this really stands out as exceptional to me. I have seen shooting stars large and small. These did not burn up or have trails of any kind. And they never flashed like planes. Not even the bright one at the end. I wish I had my phone to record. Please let me know if anyone else shared this sighting. Or if you have any questions about the specifics of what we saw. Thank you
