My fiancée and I were sitting in a cornfield after sunset looking at the sky.

With a clear view to the west, we were looking at the sky when a stationary and very bright orb appeared at approximately 10 miles from our location at about 6,000ft altitude. There was some slight movement of the object which we assumed was an aircraft, however the white light seemed much brighter than a lights that appear on commercial aircraft. While we we observing the light, it accelerated rapidly to the north. The speed of movement was so overwhelming, my fiancée and I were startled and in awe. We immediately left the area to return to the house of her parents a few miles away. I haven't been able to get it out of my mind for 51 years and I'm happy there's a reporting channel.
