White Light Hovering Over Santa Rosa Mountain

At approximately 11:00pm I was laying in the tarped bed of my truck in the Santa Rosa Mountain Yellow Post campsites at about 7800 foot elevation. I was the only camper/hunter in the area that night and it was pitch black out. Instantly everything (all natural animal/insect noises) went completely silent and the entire area lit up brighter than the brightest full moon I’ve ever seen. But I knew it wasn’t the moon because I had already located the moon prior to that and it was a dimly lit waning gibbous. Thinking a really quiet truck was pulling into the campground with its headlights on, I peeked out from under the tarp and saw a stationary, bright white light, about 20-30 foot in length (about the size of a medium sized helicopter but with the light encompassing the entire object), hovering at tree top level, behind an about 30-40 foot tall pine tree, only about 100 yards away. It made absolutely no noise, didn’t pulsate or move, and did not radiate any sort of heat (it was about 40 degrees Fahrenheit that evening). I observed it for at least a minute before fear took over and I sank back down into the bed of my truck and into my sleeping bag. Therefore I have no idea what it did or where it moved after that. I must’ve fell asleep and didn’t come back out of my sleeping bag until approximately 2:30am, drenched in sweat, at which time it was gone, and everything was pitch black again. I was completely sober and not tired nor sleep deprived at the time of this sighting. I stayed the next night at the same campsite (only because I didn’t recall this incident until 2 days later) and did not experience any further bright lights. I’m no expert tracker, but I did not notice any out of the ordinary tracks or signs in the vicinity of the sighting over the next two days. I’ve backpacked/hunted the backcountry routinely for the past 15 years, spent over 25 years in the military, and I’ve never experienced anything like this before.
