Large silver orb which quickly accelerated into sky

The date and time are approximate. It was a bright, sunny day. I was driving with my husband and daughter, heading out of our neighborhood to go to Murphy, NC. We were still in the neighborhood and turned a corner in the road when I suddenly saw a huge silver orb hovering suspended over a clearing near some woods. It was in front of us, slightly to the right. My husband also saw it, but my daughter didn't. It was at least 20 feet in diameter. I slowed down and watched it for about 4 seconds. It stayed stationary and then VERY rapidly accelerated backwards into the sky (faster than a jet). It seemed to go into a cloud(?) far away and we lost sight of it. It was entirely silent. After a few moments, we continued heading into Murphy. In Murphy, we came to an intersection and stopped at the light, where my daughter said she saw the orb high in the sky over the road. She saw it for at least 30 seconds. When we started driving again, I also saw it for 4 or 5 seconds. It looked like the same object as before. It was about 1000 feet up and heading north(?). We lost sight of it after that.
