Hovering disc zips away in an instant, begins to return, zips away again and is followed by four F-16's

1993 before I had a cell phone in my pocket..... I saw a hovering saucer shaped obect silver in color with lights of alternating colors around the perimeter floating over an empty field just south of highway SR193. It was barely south of the Hill Air Force Base flight control tower. It was right across the fence line on the civilian side of the base's perimeter fence. It was there for several minutes and it was silent. It was around 200 - 300 feet up in the air hovering. Rotating silently. The colors around the edge were two different colors but I can't remember the colors I just remember there were two. It was not parallel to the ground. It sat at an angle at approximately 40 degrees with it's (presumably) underside facing toward the base. It rotated around at approximately 1 rpm like a smooth clock second hand. It stayed there for at least 5 minutes while I and my friend Jim (name has been changed for anonymity) watched in awe and a few people drove by on the highway but nobody else stopped. After several minutes of watching I suddenly realized that I had a pair of binoculars in my glove box. We were actually parked on the road only several hundred feet away. It was right off the edge of the road. Barely off the end of the Hill Air Force Base main runway. I went to get my binoculars. The object had floated there for at least 5 minutes and then.....

I kept staring at it and then remembered my binoculars. Then I lifted the binoculars up to my eyes and Immediately couldn't find the object. I quickly started sweeping left and right and up and down and then pulled the binoculars away. At the same exact time my friend Jim is exclaiming "Whoa!"...and I'm adjusting my eyes looking where the saucer should be going "WHERE IS IT??????". Jim points at the same spot except says way out in the distance (roughly 12 miles). I look out and see a tiny dot which I stare at. It gets larger and it looks like it is coming closer to us. It gets closer and closer moving in toward us roughly at the speed of a F-16 returning from training in the proving grounds.

Until Jim asked to use the binoculars! I said 'sure!' and the moment he tried to put his eyes on it through the binoculars they took off instantly. They just went from 0 (that's zero) to ultra sonic speed (roughly 12,000 miles per hour) without a sound and then disappeared. I am not sure exactly how fast it was but they were gone in an instant. I later measured the approximate distance on google maps and estimated the distance the object traveled to be about 12 miles, beyond Antelope Island. It would have to move more than 12,000 MPH to do that. Impossible by our known physics. As we got in the car to start leaving we saw four F-16 fighter jets take off with full afterburners heaing the exact direction that the unknown object was headed.
