Witnessed two flashing objects moving very erratically

I let my dogs outside in my backyard. I usually look at the night sky to see what stars are visible. I also look for airplanes. When I looked up at the Eastern sky I thought I saw a plane. A bright white light was flashing without a recognizable pattern. I immediately knew this was different from the airplanes traveling the night sky near my home. I then noticed there were two of them. They were probably several hundred feet apart. I could not see a shape of a craft. They were making erratic moves up and down, side two side with no pattern. It was like one was chasing the other. I've never seen an airplane move in this fashion or as fast.
