Circle of lights

Was just going to bed when I heard a strange droning/whining sound that suddenly appeared. Five minutes later heard a military helicopter come over very low that hung around for five minutes. As it started fading away I could still hear this droning sound which is what made me look out the patio door and noticed the garden was a little lit up in a bluish tone. This is in normally pitch black semi rural area. Looked up and gasped, 20-30ft high up in direct line of sight about 25ft away was a 10ft circle of very bright individual round bluish white lights with more round white lights forming an X in the middle. Could not believe what I was seeing. The droning sound stopped once I was looking at it. I had the vague thought of getting my phone to take a photo but as soon as I thought it, the thought faded away and I lost the will to go and get it. I stayed there for several minutes looking at it mesmerised. It didn't move, blink or flash. Multiple military helicopters kept coming over every day for several weeks after this which never happens normally. Another person in my house also heard the droning but they didn't see anything as they were looking out a window on the opposite side of the house. I have kicked myself every day since for not taking a photo.
