Summer 1996, early afternoon. My then girlfriend and I were driving southwest from Houston, Texas, to Corpus Christi, Texas. We were in a remote area, probably 25 miles North of the small town of Refugio, Texas.
I noticed what appeared to be a star at approximately 45 degrees above the horizon, almost directly in front of me, but slightly to the left, but not quite at 11 o’clock. We kept observing the bright white/yellow light as we drove.
After observing the light for 10 minutes, it began to move more towards the east, placing it at 10 o’clock. Then over a period of 5 minutes the light seemed to becoming closer. The light did not appear to be in the Earth’s atmosphere at first.
The light kept kept getting bigger and bigger until it looked like a small moon. We were concerned that the world was about to end. Honestly it looked like a small moon coming toward the Earth.
For perhaps 5 minutes or so, while the object appeared at it’s largest size we could see texture on the object. We focused on the object to try and make out what we were seeing on the surface of the object. But couldn’t make out the details, just patches of grey on the white circle.
Then very abruptly the object “zoomed” back out and appeared as a star again. Then just as quickly, “zipped” from 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock and disappeared.
Witness indicates that the date is approximate. PD
