Crimson light alternating with orange within the clouds at night.

Went outside to throw out garbage to find a red light in the clouds. It was crimson red, as if something was glowing a red light from within the clouds. The light was still, but seemed to intensify until it faded to an orange-yellowish light, equally beyond the clouds or within them. The two colors alternated in equal times at about a minute each. I went back inside, but it could have been there longer.
