We were students at Franconia College, Franconia, NH, which was high on a hill overlooking the Mt. Lafayette forest, looking toward Franconia Notch and the Old Man of the Mountains.

One night, very late, we were looking out the upstairs windows and we saw a bright disk of light rise up out of the forest in the valley below the mountain and zoom away into the sky and disappear.

The next day my boyfriend and his buddy got on their bikes and rode out to the forest. They found a lot of old logging trails. They followed them in the general direction of the light we had seen the night before.

They found a large circular clearing in the middle of the dense pine forest, over a hundred feet in diameter. Around the edge were three large circular marks pushed into the ground about two feet deep, which they guessed were marks of some sort of landing gear. In the center was another smaller circle about six to eight feet wide that was burned deep into the ground so that the blackened burned rocks were crumbling.

They got scared and got back on their bikes and came back to the college.

They promised us they were not stoned, because of course we accused them of being high, which they hotly denied. They got pretty mad about it, so I think that was because they were actually scared, but trying not to show it.

I just saw my boyfriend again a year ago, and he still remembers it. He swears they were straight and telling the truth. He is an honest man and I believe him.

This was only a few years after the Barney Hill episode, which happened not too far from there.

I remember that they were excited and nervous when they got back. That was in the late spring of 1968. We are all 65 now. We were 22 then.

I also remember that we suggested calling the Air Force, but they both said nobody would believe them, and besides that, they weren't sure they could find the place again because there were many logging trails criss-crossing each other.

They just seemed scared and reluctant to say anymore about it. So we never have, until I found your site this evening.
