NUFORC Sighting 104291

Occurred: 2013-11-09 20:45 Local
Reported: 2013-11-09 17:25 Pacific
Duration:
No of observers: 1

Location: Roanoke, VA, USA

Shape: Orb

Star sized orb powers up (it got brighter than Venus) in the NW sky then back to a star, moved off to the NE.

Looking on my porch at the N/NW sky to the left of Polaris. Quarter of 9 PM.

A star like light was moving slowly South, as soon as I realized there were no hazard lights on it, it LIT UP, it got twice the size of Venus at its brightest, then "powered down", went back to a point (star sized) and headed North East (not South), dimmed out, and it was gone. The whole episode lasted less than 10 seconds.

It wasn't a satellite since it did not continue its course and dimmed out way before it got to a horizon. Besides, I'm not going to lie, I've been seeing these for years now and I know one when I see it (I have had a close encounter within 40 feet which is recorded on NUFORC - Blacksburg, VA 1996).

My neighbors and I have been seeing things on and off since the 5th, so I figured I better start making a report so maybe others in the area can start looking around here too.

We've seen nothing for months but now its starting again. Definitely a flap going on in VA.

I know I need to get this on camera but I don't have one and my phone will not pick up star sized objects at night (They don't light up for very long). Once I can get the money together I will surely do so!

NUFORC Note:

www.Heavens-above.com indicate no Iridium "flares" visible from Roanoke for the time and date indicated by the witness. PD
