Occurred: 2011-05-28 21:00 Local
Reported: 2011-05-28 22:34 Pacific
Duration: 40 minutes
No of observers: 3

Location: Niangua, MO, USA

Shape: Fireball

Several objects, flying in groups of 2, 3 & 5 at a time, in no apparent formation,at intervals, from the east turning to the north.

Around 9:00 p.m., on Saturday May 28, 2011, my husband, granddaughter and I were having a wiener roast out in our field. My granddaughter had left to go back to the house to get something and while she was gone, I turned to speak to my husband and I noticed what appeared to be a ball of fire in the sky above the tree line height, past our field. It came from the East and turned to head north.

I told my husband to look and then I heard my granddaughter yelling, "What are those?" And then we saw two more flying behind the first one.

It was a cloudy night and they were flying below the cloud cover (on line it said cloud cover was at 7000 ft.) and they were silent. Within the next minute we observed 3 more. They were on the same path as the previous ones.

I called 911 to report objects flying over Niangua and they transferred me to the Webster County Sheriff’s Dept. I would say it was close to 10 minutes when 5 more flew over. Another minute, maybe 2 minutes, 3 more objects flew over. Then it was a little longer maybe three to four minutes and 3 more flew over.

I left my husband and granddaughter watching while I went to the house to get the binoculars. It took me maybe 5 minutes. When I came out of the house, there looked to be 5 flying to the North. My Husband and Granddaughter said there had been maybe 3 or 4 more.

I called the KY3 News out of Springfield, MO and spoke with a Dave Snider; I also sent him the picture my Granddaughter had taken.

We live in an area that seems to be a flight path and we see a lot of planes. We also get to see planes with their landing lights on, preparing to land at the Springfield airport about 35 miles away. These flying objects did not have landing lights on.

I am not a very good judge of size, but I would say they were maybe an eighth of the size of a full moon. To me they looked like a ball of fire, slightly elongated. Slightly.

The color was reddish-orange. Not much different than the flames of our fire.

Like I previously stated, they flew silent. They had no apparent formation other than they all went the same direction and came from the same direction.

NUFORC Note:

We spoke at length via telephone with this witness, and we found her to be exceptionally eloquent and objective. We suspect that she is an excellent witness. PD
