12 Red\orange lights in sky?

Was driving down the road in the waverley area and saw about 12 orange\red ligts (little bigger then a star would appear) moving very slowly in the sky.

When stopping saw a smaller light coming out of some of the bigger lights. after a few minutes of moving slowly across the night sky. They started blinking (like on and off) and then they just vanished.
