Bright Blue/Purple light with red center falls out of sky

Traveling east on I-40 at about 10:25 pm, saw a bright bluish/purple sphere hovering for about 25 seconds at about 300-500 feet, then all the sudden it fell down behind the trees while changing to a bright red color in the center, as if it were dropped. NO sound.
