Objects that zip in and out

I thought I saw a falling star. I hurried to make a wish on it when I noticed that it did not fall, it zipped out of sight. Then it zipped back in and out again. I then saw several more appear zipping in and out at very high rates of speed. I heard no sound. I thought perhaps it was a search light or laser but there was no light trail. I was amazed at these objects above or near downtown Houston.
