UFO on the NJ turnpike 8/06/03 @4:30 AM very large with white and red lights, hovered in one spot

Traveling north bound on the N.J. turnpike between exits 4 and 5 at approximately 4:25 a.m. on Aug. 6th I saw 2 giant spotlights shining towards us in the sky just to the left of the south bound lane a couple miles in front us. They looked like headlights on a car but much brighter. At first I thought it was a helicopter. As we got closer I could see some red lights on it and the spotlights were no longer as bright and they were shining straight down and more white lights were shining to the west. It almost looked like a radio tower at first with the red lights. As we got closer to it I observed there was no tower under these lights and asked my daughter if she could see one. She could not either. It wasn't moving, it just hovered in one spot above the trees. The bottom of it looked round but the front of it looked a little different and that's where the red lights were. I woke up my son to observe this as well. This object was very large and kind of reminded me of the Star Trek Enterprise without the tail ( that's the best way I can describe it) We observed this for several minutes until we could no longer see it anymore. It did not move at anytime that we observed it. I am a 40 year old mom and I observed this with my 10 year old daughter and my 14 year old son while driving home from N.C. I wish we had pulled over to sit and watch it but we were in such shock over seeing this incredible sight we didn't think of it and it's not that easy to turn around on the turnpike.
