A red blazing light from South to North

Well, I haven't seen a space craft, but I saw a red light over the line of the horizont. It was not a satellite, because satellites are identified by a white light. It was not an airplane, because airplanes have flashing position lights. It was not a meteor: the duration was too long. What could it be?
