Horrific sounds and odor

While camping approx. 15 miles west of Roslyn, WA., we were awoken by horrific sounds louder than gunfire. Our dog always alerts us to sounds in the night and she didn't make a peep. The sounds were of a popping nature with shrills overlaying or interupting it. The sounds traveled from the east to west of us and lasted maybe 30 seconds. We couldn't see anything but there was a terrible smell that lasted a few minutes similar to that of burnt wiring and plastic.
